| Mazzei's
glassware creations are done by placing enamels between two layers of glass and then fusing the layers together. The bottom
piece of glass is hand-painted and the second piece of glass is placed on top. Here, Mazzei prepares an enamel pattern. |
| The two pieces are then placed on a form and placed
in the kiln, which is fired to fusing temperatures. Here Mazzei places the form in the kiln. When fusing temperature is reached,
the glass sags into the form and fuses into one piece of glass, encasing the enamels in the middle. The glass is then annealed
and cooled overnight in the kiln.
Mazzei and daughter, Maria, remove the product the
next day. |
